I AM A TOOL OF GENTRIFICATION

gentrification-copy.gif

Episode 3

Amsterdam West

This episode is focused on the problems of Broedpaatses and living communities. Is Broedplaats really working? How do artists feel there? How does the overexposure and over-advertising of the Kinkerburrt area push housing prices up and what does this do to old living communities such as WG terrain and Tetterode?

This episode is a part of Social Capital #2 Amsterdam-West. Reflections on a City in Flux, a project in collaboration with TAAK and LIMA

Episode 2

Amsterdam Noord

“I am a tool of gentrification” deals with the ramifications of gentrification in Amsterdam for the surrounding artist community. My main questions concern the role of the artist in the gentrification process. How can we make use of the current situation and turn it into a positive development for the Amsterdam art field and artists? “I am a tool of gentrification” aims to function as a speculative proposition on using gentrification within the artistic community, which will open up during interviews and open discussions.

Episode 1

Amsterdam City Center

“I am a tool of gentrification. City Center” is the first episode of the series of an experimental documentary by Lyuba Matyunina. The main question Lyuba deals with is concern about the role of the artist in the gentrification process. How can we make use of the current situation and turn it into a positive development for the Amsterdam art field and artists? “I am a tool of gentrification” aims to function as a speculative proposition on using gentrification within the artistic community, which will open up during interviews and open discussions. It is more than a critical analysis of the situation: it is an attempt to find a solution, make a platform for discussion and solve situational propositions.
